We moved to Ramsgate in 1949, so Dad could play football for Ramsgate.
In the mid 1950's, when I was 9 or 10 years of age, I traversed the ledge beneath the Ramsgate West cliff. We (me and my mates) gained access at the western edge of the harbour, just past Jacobs Ladder and walked all the way across, to the area around the West cliff lift.

There used to be a concrete wading pool structure down at sea level, near the lift, in those days. You can see the structure in the next picture from 1939. The ledge looked pretty much the same in 1955 as in the 1948 picture.
The next pictures show the same West cliff area in more recent times.
